Questions

Answers before you pick up the phone

Short, plain answers. Every case is different, so treat these as a start and ask us about yours.

What does the first meeting cost?

One hour, at a set fee quoted when you book. If you hire us, that amount comes off your first bill.

How do you charge after that?

Most cases are billed by the hour against a retainer, with a written estimate. Some simple, agreed cases can be done for a set fee, which we'll name before you sign.

Which office should I call?

The one nearest you or nearest the courthouse your case is in. Any of the three can take your case.

Can I keep my case out of court?

Often. Many families settle by agreement or in mediation, and a judge only signs off. If the other side won't agree, the court is still there.

Will I have to testify?

Only if your case goes to a contested hearing or trial. If it does, we'll prepare you well ahead of time.

Can we meet by video?

Yes. After the first meeting, most can happen by video, and documents can be signed electronically where the court allows.

Do you meet clients in languages besides English?

Octavio meets clients in Spanish and Wenhao in Mandarin. For other languages, we arrange a qualified interpreter.

What if I'm afraid of my spouse?

Tell us on the first call. We'll talk about a protective order, how to meet safely and how to leave this site quickly with the button at the top of the page.

Didn't see your question?

Ask it on the phone. There's no wrong first question.
